About Us – SEVA-AP

Pioneering Social Change Since 1992

Over 30 Years of Dedicated Service to Marginalized Communities

SEVA – Social Education and Voluntary Action – is a registered nonprofit organization founded in 1992 in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh. With a steadfast commitment to social justice, equity, and community empowerment, SEVA has worked for over three decades to improve the lives of the most vulnerable, including children, women, differntly abled, Dalits, Tribals, farmers, and other marginalized groups.

As we mark 34 years of service in 2026, SEVA reflects on a legacy of transformative impact through capacity building, sustainable development, and strategic partnerships with national and international agencies, government bodies, and corporates like NABARD, World Bank, UNICEF, and Godrej Agrovet Limited.

Our Evolution

From Grassroots Advocacy to Sustainable Institution Building

SEVA was founded by U. Raja Rao as a grassroots initiative to address social and economic disparities in rural and urban areas in Andhra Pradesh. Initially focused on education, child rights, differently abled and voluntary action, it evolved into a comprehensive development organization. Mr.U. Raja Rao founded SEVA in the early 2010s, and took up Skill Development for women and youth, Sustainable Agriculture, Women Empowerment, Natural Resources Development and Disaster Mitigation efforts in coastal areas.

Under Raja Rao’s leadership, SEVA has built community-owned institutions like FPOs, WAS, SHGs, Faremer’s Clubs, JLG (Joint Liability Groups) and women’s entrepreneurship groups, while expanding into environmental conservation, water management, and livelihood enhancement. The organization’s efforts have been recognized with awards, starting from the District Youth Award in 1994 to the Best NGO Award in 2021, 2022 and 2023 during Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations.

Our mission remains grounded in fostering self-determination, protecting natural resources, and creating access to entitlements for a just and humane world.
