Saphala Rural Mart

Overview

Saphala Rural Mart Project SEVA’s Saphala Rural Mart initiative serves as a vital market linkage platform for Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and smallholder farmers in four Districts, Andhra Pradesh. It facilitates the collective marketing of agricultural produce to many towns/cities in India and aborad. Even SHG groups are also supported in marekting of their produce. Sapahala also provides provision of inputs, and access to remunerative prices, empowering Tribal and marginal farmers, local aritisans, through improved value chains and direct market access to their food, pickles, clothes and many other products.

Project Overview

Highlights

In rural regions, small and farmers often face challenges in accessing fair markets, leading to low prices and exploitation by middlemen. Saphala Rural Mart functions as a producer-led outlet or aggregation point linked to SEVA-promoted FPOs, enabling bulk marketing of crops like fruits, vegetables, cashew nut, acid lemon, maize, mirchi, paddy, and pulses. The project supports FPOs in procuring and distributing quality inputs (seeds, pesticides, fertilizers) while facilitating government subsidies. It draws inspiration from NABARD-supported rural marts and FPO marketing models in Andhra Pradesh, where such outlets help both sellers and buyers and helps reduce post-harvest losses, enhance bargaining power, and connect producers directly to buyers. Saphala Rural Mart provides a open platform where anyone can supply their produce/goods.

Objectives

  • Provide remunerative prices and stable market linkages for FPO members’ produce.
  • Facilitate easy access to quality agricultural inputs at subsidized rates.
  • Strengthen FPOs through collective marketing and value addition.
  • Empower Tribal and marginalized farmers with better income and reduced dependency on intermediaries.
  • Promote sustainable agriculture by integrating input support with crop diversification.
  • Promote Organice Produce
  • Provide a Marketing Hub Platform
